The Place I Want To Be 港都夜雨

Art is the ultimate time machine. It can take you to the past, present and future. Instantly.

Art operates as a vessel through time, bridging past, present, and future in a single frame. Alongside Summer Sea Breeze 夏日海風, this work serves as an archive of memory, capturing specific moments, companionships, and the lingering sensory essence of the ocean.

Rooted in the complex emotional landscape of migration, the painting explores the duality of homecoming- the tension of returning to a place that is simultaneously deeply familiar and profoundly altered.  Influenced by Goethe’s concept of Heimweg (the journey home), the composition evokes the paradox of being physically near yet perpetually displaced.  Dominated by abstract forms, rich textures, and expressive color, the canvas documents a raw technical struggle, culminating in a small, luminous yellow window in the upper right- a quiet beacon symbolistically looking out toward the sea, representing the enduring yearning for sanctuary.

— Pablo Picasso

(“Painting is stronger than I am; it makes me do what it wants.”)
